Version Settings
By default, when a new Document Library is created, version settings are set to 'no versioning'.

Upload a word document, e.g. woman.docx,

Each time you save the opened word document (e.g. woman.docx), the document in sharepoint is automatically updated. From the 'Modified' column, you can see the update time.
How about a Document Library with 'Major Versions' setting?

Only one version will be created when you open a document and save it (as many times as you want) or close it.
Keep the following number of major versions:2

Three versions are kept.

Major and minor (draft) versions

After you close the word document, and open it, modify it, save it, a new minor version is created.

Publish a Major Version

Open the document and modify and close it

By default, any user who can read items can see the draft items.

How about to set Draft Item Securit to 'Only Users who can edit items'?
Assign 1ask2\jim to be a member of Home Visitor group
